Our small ski resort community has secured an “early” supply of the so-called vaccine, and I am shaking my head in disbelief as I watch my neighbours gleefully announcing that they “got an appointment”. Jeez, they are so jubilant that they are even announcing the date, as if it shall be a life changing moment immortalized in time (eyes roll).

My neighbour down the street had some questions before booking, so he made an appointment with our resident family physician. Here’s what he was told:

“it will not protect you against the variants. You can still be a spreader, so you still have to wear a mask and social distance and avoid gatherings. And you can still get the “regular” (non-variant) Covid. The only thing the vaccine will do is guarantee you will not end up on a ventilator”

Armed with this info, he still decided to get it. And I know someone in VT who was told the exact same thing, and just received his second dose anyway.

Unbelievable. And he was shocked to hear that my husband and I are declining.
