   In the comments sections in current and recent off-guardian.org pieces there are pertinent, somewhat related, comments that I can summarize as follows. I believe them to be approximately correct.

   The truly big lie can work because most people just don’t think that anyone would even think of pulling off anything so extreme.

   The more you look into this matter, the more skeptical you become. You more and more start thinking in terms of big lie and large conspiracies. The more you start describing things as you see them, the less credible you seem to many people. You may do better with many people to keep your critique somewhat limited, as if you only see some limited problems. Also, you can get by censors a bit better with limited critiques. Some people who are published with limited critiques may in fact see more than they let on.

   There is probably an extremely rough inverse relationship between formal education and socio-economic standing on the one hand (at least position in established order) and skepticism about official and quasi-official propaganda on the other. Those who are, for example, in academics or government can probably relatively easy to fool (on average) by stuff coming from government officials or academia and government compared to people who are formally speaking poorly or at least not particularly well educated by formal criteria. The latter may (speaking extremely broadly) may be far better at discerning what is not well backed by reality. (Digression: In the past I personally have often noted that people who are supposed to be either stupid or poorly educated can be much better at getting sly humor or sarcasm than people with the fanciest credentials.)

   Besides the matter of direct conflict of interest there is also an analogy to buying a fake painting. If you have paid a fortune for a fake painting you are going to have a much harder time admitting to yourself or to others that it is fake than if you happened to pick it up at a bargain price. Similarly, even if bureaucrats in government, academia, medicine, the press, whatever do not have much to gain directly financially from the Party Line, now that they have in effect invested heavily in it in other ways they are not going to want to admit that what they have been stating and working on is wrong.

   Many people’s gut feeling or intuition may be telling them that there is a huge problem. I am not sure exactly how one takes advantage of it.

   One person suggested (I think this might be for the better educated people but I am not sure) if you are having trouble arguing at all with them you probably do better with fear than with logic. Keep them anxious. I am not sure that this point is correct. Clearly, as noted above, however, “intellectuals” etc may not be good in the realm of processing matters such as logical incongruities.

   One person gave the interesting anecdote of having gone to her GP. She expressed concerns about the so-called “vaccines”. The GP recited what sounded like a canned response she might have been given about all the nutty stuff you can get on the internet, not to worry. The person commenting then told the GP that the objections came straight out of the small print on UK gov’t’s official warnings on the agent. The GP was taken aback and she (GP) apparently cut off discussion and ended the appointment abruptly in possibly hostile fashion, if I remember the comment correctly. Perhaps examining at official fine print is good for some conversations so as to be able to cite in bland fashion.
