It’s pretty easy for them to find him violating bail. On the other hand, re-arresting him would just fan the flames of his reputation. His Gofundme has $288k in it! I don’t know how others measure support and sympathy but I know that there are few things I would give any money to unless I was deeply moved by the cause. I think the “Toronto Barbeque Party” has galvanized alot of people as well as the undecided “voters” out there in this election of public opinion. Seeing all those police, especially the horses move in on all those working class folks was reminiscent of Victorian Britain labour battles.
Among the social media restrictions it also says he has to comply with “all lawful public health orders”. That makes it even easier to find him in violation of bail as no one can possibly comply, much less even know, what all the health orders are in Toronto these days.
Just my two cents… but things are heating up in Toronto. There’s resistance to the lockdown from the sorts of people you wouldn’t have expected it from last time or in the days leading up to it. I always thought they’d try to crush Christmas socializing but I never thought they’d crush Christmas shopping. I went to the local ToysRus on Sunday night and they’ve been reduced to a takeout window the size of a flea market stall. Toysrus went bankrupt in the states a year ago but in Canada they’ve stayed open. How they or any other retailer is going to survive a second lockdown especially at the most profitable shopping time of the year is a good question to ask. You can’t even go into most stores in the mall, and that’s big malls here. How can those stores compete with all the overhead they have?
Adam Skelly realized the whole thing is a fraud and decided he could either break the covid rules or be broken by them. Just about every small business is in the same spot as him right now. Actually, maybe some of the bigger ones too.
