The results of this experiment suggest that face masks can be effective at capturing bacteria laden droplets expelled via sneezing, talking, singing, and coughing.

Also, the effects of distance from source to target, with and without masks, suggest that social distancing can be effective.  The experimental results are summarized in this video.
