Hypocrisy of the Highest Order
Public health officials Still preach social distancing and masks UNLESS you want to go and join a protest…then ANYTHING Goes.
It should be interesting to say the least if there proves to be little effect on the numbers in areas where protesting is rampant. I suspect that will be the case. This after the media went whole hog about States opening up too soon and how there would be hell to pay in the form of a new “second wave” in these states…like Georgia and others.
Seriously ? last month getting a haircut was deemed to be a potentially fatal exercise but now it’s ok…no ….encouraged by Mass Public Health to go out and stand / march with thousands.
This is unbelievable…from Lockdown to shoulder to shoulder in a flash …and its OK now ?
Anyone who cannot see the irony of this situation is flying blind .
sheesh
Who cares what they say anymore, Fully? It’s all B.S. Whatever suits their political agenda.
Very well said, Sir North, and thanks for sharing the article, Sir FullGoldCrown.
When we were in the midst of the second month of the lockdown due to the virus, Clive Maund penned this article. With what we have seen in the past two weeks or so, as the protests have thrown all the social distancing norms have been thrown out the window, it is worth reading again. Just four weeks ago we were debating whether this virus is a real threat or not. But the lockdowns have had their effects, and then some:
(i) Mass unemployment
(ii) Idle people joining protests
(iii) People with no means to earn money indulging in looting, with police not using force/weapons.
God Bless Clive Maund for ignoring the controversy and “perceived lack of empathy” and yet writing what he thinks, as always.
(Many tenters may have already read the article)

You know, Fully, it’s an impossible thing to explain. I lived in Canada for 12 years, and in many ways became a Canadian. My dad was born in a tiny town in Alberta, and through him I was able to obtain Canadian citizenship, of which I am proud. I have a feeling for a lot of what is going on in Canada, but I don’t fully know and understand it as I have been gone several decades. We have Canadian friends that we winter with in Florida, and we swap and share stories about what is going on in our respective countries all the time. So I am not totally ignorant, but unless I live there, I don’t understand.
That’s kind of like you trying to understand what’s going on in the U.S. I had a long talk one night with a Canadian whose husband had made a derogatory-intended comment to whit: “Why do Americans think they are so exceptional?” Only his wife was really interested in an answer to that, and we talked for about 20 minutes or so. Essentially, unless you are steeped in the history and understand what Americans did to create this country, it is difficult to grasp. People who come here from oppressive countries seem to get it, and get it good. Basically, the U.S. is the only nation in history founded on the idea that the God-ordained rights of the individual trumps everything. The whole country existed originally to secure and protect those rights of the individual. This is a difficult concept to grasp since most folks, including Americans, are taught that the “greater good” is tantamount, that it “takes a village”, that governments can be trusted and are there to protect them and keep them “safe.” The idea of America is (WAS) that this was the place the individual was secure in his freedom to create whatever life he wanted and worked for. That government existed only to PROTECT the freedoms that are the birthright of every human being. Those freedoms are clearly enunciated in the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights. Our constitution does not exist to allocate power to government, but to restrict it, and restrict it severely.
The guys who wrote those documents were brilliant students of history. They knew the evils of government, the evils of making the individual subservient to the government. Yes, government is necessary – but a necessary evil, to be controlled as dangerous by free men, much like you control fire. The correlation is that less government equates more individual freedom. The reverse is true – it’s a zero sum game.
That’s why gun ownership is inextricably linked to American freedom. Without the ability to resist and yes, overthrow a despotic government that is exceeding its authority, there is no guarantee of government restraint. It will always grow like a hydra monster, expanding and growing its power. Hence, we find ourselves in our current situation – a runaway government, bent on complete subservience of the population to government edict and control…except that there are 300 million guns in the hands of private citizens. It’s why Japan did not invade America. They knew that everywhere they turned Americans would kill them. Same thing with Switzerland, where every male MUST own a gun, MUST serve in the army. It’s why Hitler did not invade that tiny country. The German army would have been annihilated.
The undoing of our individual freedom and liberty, the bedrock of who we are and what we stand for as a nation has been slowly eroded since the end of the War Between the States. That great conflict was the last attempt by free men in North America to resist the dismantling of individual freedom and to be replaced with fealty to the state. Freedom of the individual lost in that great war, and the dominance of the state won.
After a century and several decades, what we are seeing now is the final – perhaps not quite final, but very close to it – throes of the finest experiment in freedom in the history of the world. Freedom is hard to understand unless you have had it, and then it’s taken away. I have experienced that in my lifetime. More importantly, I’ve studied the documentation of it happening over those many decades. Too much info to put into a tiny post like this, but that’s what is happening here.
The great never-ending conflict – the roadmap of history, if you delve into it – between individual freedom and state supremacy is near the end of the road in the U.S. It most like will result in an incredibly bloody end, because there are still enough Americans committed to that rare, exceedingly scarce idea that individual freedom trumps state subservience who are well armed and ready for a final fight. How it will end is unknown, but we are racing now towards the final showdown.
The machinations of the Covid, the protests, the riots, the race card being played, are part of a much larger game, a much larger showdown that has been orchestrated by enemies of freedom. And if one believes that enemies of freedom are not occupying the highest offices of our Congress, our courts, our institutions, our educational system, then one is simply naive or worse.
I would never expect you or others who don’t live here to understand that in the sense that you would feel it and believe it. But that is as best as I can explain without writing a book, what is unfolding after these many, many years. The progressive communists – which is actually what they are, communists, not social democrats or any other label they create – now have the high ground. There only appears to be two likely outcomes: either an armed resistance overthrows them and replaces them with a limited government committee to its responsibility to protect our freedom – NOT to make us safe, because freedom has nothing to do with safety, and in fact is diametrically opposed to it – or we go under and become state-driven, state-directed, and a mere footnote in history. But much blood will be spilled either way. It is inevitable.
I write this not to suggest that anyone is right or wrong about their country, their way of life, or that other nations’ choice of government is not right for them, or desired by them. I’m making a feeble attempt to explain a bit about what is going on here in the U.S., and why freedom and limited government go hand-in-hand and are so important to the people here In the U.S. who are still patriots.
Beautifully written and exceptionally well explained, Sir Silverboom!
This song was sung in elementary school chorus by both my daughters. It is now bringing tears to my eyes. Yes, individual freedom, that is/was all this country is/was about.
God Bless The U.S.A.

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife
I thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can’t take that away
And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
Where’s pride in every American heart
And it’s time we stand and say
That I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
And I’m proud to be an American
Where at least I know I’m free
And I won’t forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I’d gladly stand up next to you
And defend Her still today
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

Thanks for that Boomer.
Passionate and Informative .
That really does help put it into perspective.
The only thing i can add is this is not about Right vs Left
Both sides have been hijacked by their extremists now.
It’s about Right vs Wrong
Small Controlled Government …neither Right nor Left …that is a Libertarian concept …once lead and championed by Ron Paul.
That movement had legs a few years ago…what happened to it…where did it go ?
“Same thing with Switzerland, where every male MUST own a gun, MUST serve in the army. It’s why Hitler did not invade that tiny country. The German army would have been annihilated.”
that brings up the Swiss K-31 Schmidt-Rubin rifle
amazing design and accuracy, the K-31 is the best WWII military surplus rifle in the world.
The K-31 is by far my favorite military surplus rifle (the M-1 Garand is a close second)
the K-31 was another reason Hitler chose not to invade Switzerland in WWII
Swiss troops, well trained with the K-31, fighting in the Alps, would have taken a very significant toll on any invader
watch the video, (you can still buy a K-31 in excellent condition for decent prices)

Silverboom, Thank you. I have read a lot of great material on Goldtent, but your comments above, are by far the best! You may not have the time or inclination to write a book but how about the comments above in a “pamphlet”? You may be our generation’s Thomas Payne.(“Common Sense”)
Thomas Paine (knew I probably misspelled) unable to edit my comment to correct spelling, sorry.
in Florida the number of coronavirus cases is exploding since Gov DeSantis lifted the lockdown
really makes us wonder what was the point of the 2 month lockdown
jobs and businesses were destroyed, many to never come back
we’re seeing a very strong emotional response to the police killing in Minneapolis
from people who have said “enough”
and there’s a highly emotional overreaction now taking place, driven by emotions, not driven by logic
defunding/disbanding police departments is now one of the rally cries
City of Minneapolis City Council voted yesterday to do so
when videos show up of women of a certain color, forced to their knees, to apologize for their so-called “ethnic priviledge”
well folks that’s where it’s jumping the shark..big time..in fact rather worrisome
being pessimistic, one could argue we’re witnessing the breakdown in society
Galt’s Gulch time perhaps?
those mocking gun owners feel the police will always be there to protect you, right?
how’s that going to work in Minneapolis soon?
oh yes, the starry eyed City Commission has dreams of neighborhood watch groups and “Dignity Battalions” of BLM and AntiFa “social workers’
life will be great in the Utopian City of Minneapolis
Great thread. Thanks guys.
