     Well said Kemmrich. Too many people don’t even know what a peer reviewed journal is. How many people spreading you tube nonsense have actually read the peer reviewed studies I wonder ?

     You are assuming that all peer review comes from honest reviews . As RFK Junior just showed us that is not always the case

     The Drug companies often “sponsor” the peer reviews” and they direct the out comes.

     You assume all scientists are honest and NOT compromised by thier bosses and their “donors”

     naive !!!

     My best friend is on an “experimental drug for a serious debilitating disease…it is OFF label and has never been “proven” by double blind studies to be effective for his condition….which is a rare disease

     BUT it works and is THE only thing that works and works for the handful of others with this condition…all of them…but there is NO “scientific” proof .

     It just saves their lives !! He has been on it for 20 years.

     IF it was ordained from above that this drung is unproven for this condition…he would have been long gone

     And believe me when i say…the world would be a lot poorer without him

       The study that “disproved” efficacy of HCQ was done on near-death patients. Dr. Zelenko has said numerous times it must be given to patients in the earliest stages of the disease in order to work. Where were the “peer” reviews in ages past when great discoveries were made by trying them out and saving lives? That is exactly what Dr. Zelenko and other ethical doctors are doing. The arguments against HCQ administered ar the right time do not convinced me. The record of recoveries and the lives saved by Dr. Zelenko do convince me. And this has nothing to do with a conspiracy theory.

   I’m a scientist. I work with scientists from lots of different disciplines. None of us give a shit about politics. Anyone who thinks there are dark forces exerting an influence on what reputable scientists in the, UK think, do and write is living in a conspiracy theorist fantasy land.

     A good example of how corrupted some “scientists” can be, when there is another agenda and $$$ involved.

   Does big pharma pay for/control drug trials? Of course they do — it is real expensive and it is their drugs! Has there been corruption, false data and all sorts of shenanigans? Yes I would assume there is.
   Drug trials are one thing, my quote is about scientific research — which can overlap with drug treatments, but really is a whole ‘nother animal. … but yes, there is corruption anywhere when dollars are attached.

   Do you really believe that something works, but when a double blind study is performed, there is no appreciable difference in the outcomes between the drug and a placebo??? That just doesn’t make any sense at all. You are missing some important information in your statement. I am glad the experimental drug is working for your friend We all know that doctors don’t know everything by a long shot.

     If I walked into a doctor’s office with a cough and fever, I would not say I want to wait until Gates and Fauci come up with a vaccine. By that time I could be dead. I’d say GIVE ME THE HCQ now! Why? Because I’d have nothing to lose. And that is what a lot of smart patients are doing around the world.

     Why are Doctors and Patients who believe this drug will help not allowed to chose it !

     A Simple question no ?

     Answer. IMHO..IF it works we don’t need a vaccine and we don’t need to wait years to find another UNTRIED drug which may cost thousands per dose.

     Who loses that game ? The Doctor ? The Patient ? The Drug Company ?

     There was Nobody interested in a double blind study for this off label drug to see if it worked for this horrible condition.

     Because there was NO money to be made…only maybe 100 people in the USA have this condition. So it is used and it works and there is NO scientific proof but it works so the patients continue to use it.

       So there is no “scientific proof” that it works because no real scientific studies exist. However, if it seems to work for some patients, then a knowledgeable doctor should prescribe it. Since it is being prescribed, I don’t understand how this undermines the whole double blind study approach when you are talking about millions of patients.

       I found at least one double blind study for HCQ where there are 3 groups (I can’t tell if it has started yet):
       a) The first study group consists of patients who have tested positive for the virus, but are well enough to quarantine at home.
       b) The second group of patients will be those with severe enough cases that they require hospitalization.
       c) The final group will be 200 Penn health care workers … The workers will be given either hydroxychloroquine or a placebo for two months, to offer a wide window during which the worker could be exposed to the virus. The major outcome measured here will be the number of workers who contract the virus.

     Patrick, I agree that the increasing volume and length of OT posts do get in the way and squash other good, relevant posts. A 7 hour daytime ban on OT posts, while helpful for that time period, does not solve the problem of so many good posts getting buried and pushed aside during the other 17 hours. I will now do my part and never post another OT topic or comment of any kind again. You are a good model for that Patrick, as you and a few others do stick to the business at hand!

       I’d recommend one thread per day that Fully starts to cover our daily needs to talk about covid and important stuff (non TA).. and we chat along within the comments section of it.. sharing links and thoughts… it would definitely keep the main page clean. I really like the new guys TA and am selfish not to want to miss it. But, I’m but a client of goldtent (which I really appreciate), and the ultimate power is that of Sir Fully! I’ll keep reading and posting no matter what happens!

   Here’s that French study of using HCQ and azithromycin in “early Covid-19” patients: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1477893920302179 It wasn’t a double blind study, though.

   The report seems favorable, but they still had a 0.9% fatality rate — which seems within the statistical range of all covid-19 patients (if you get hospitalized, the death rate goes up a lot).
   Their brief conclusion: “Administration of the HCQ+AZ combination before COVID-19 complications occur is safe and associated with very low fatality rate in patients.”

   I am wondering if all of the scientists here who are quick to write this off as conspiracy theories also agree with Google, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube that they should all censor these opinions that question the mainstream thinking. If so, then for sure we are all doomed.
