Looks more like most commodities
2010-2011 was glorious…but that was a decade ago
And we still think this metal matters ?

A large rise might not happen in the coming months (I expect not) but it could come unexpectedly, in thief in the night fashion.
Lack of meaningful “price discovery” as Northstar recently put it may blow up one of these years.
It is interesting how the broad-base-preceding-big-moves-recitation is invoked sometimes and sometimes not.
There could be some discussions and quibbles over the understandings and use of the words “commodity” and “money” here. These could fill books.
It doesn’t matter until it does. As Karl said, that may happen quite rapidly at some point.

The S&P was actually quite a bit more expensive in terms of silver in 2000 than it is today.

I think what matters is if today’s environment is more like 2000 or 2011. Clearly, the price discrepancy today looks more like 2000, meaning silver is more likely to outperform over the next decade or so. The S&P/silver ratio topped out in September 2018 and is currently in a long term triangle reversal pattern, just like the Dow/gold ratio. With stocks at such elevated levels, and unlikely to drop substantially due to perpetual Fed assistance, the coming rise in the price of precious metals may be quite shocking.
