   It is true that

   –it is good that it is not one of those thin weak single-strand “BREAKOUT!!!” strands that often means *&)%*. There has been some backing and filling. It may indeed go straight up. No surprise if it does.

   –It’s great the way the moving averages are going up.

   –The way the shorter version of the oscillator is crossing the slower version, both rising, is attractive.

   So I don’t know about “chartology”, but the way the chart looks it is highly attractive in many ways but not perfect. Too high too fast. This particular entity would do well to do some more backing and filling at this point. To be closer to “perfect” it would have been curving upward giving subtle indications of preparing to make some of the sudden moves upwards that it already has made while not moving very much at all.

     One always should look at multiple charts in multiple time frames. It often is can be useful to adjust the input (weeks in moving averages, play with different things, just to make sure that the thing looks good with different kinds of input. I would not have gone with this single chart alone. Nevertheless a time when the chart looked somewhat closer to being “perfect” — the time when I think it would have been identifiable as something to buy — would have been around early November. It was edging upwards, and both moving averages were edging upwards. The TSI was not great, and one would have had to sit through a brief down.

     The time when it was truly close to being “perfect” was fairly early in December. Then it rose through both moving averages , both of which were rising but at not too exaggerated a rate, and which (unlike the current situation) were not too far apart. Both lines of the oscillator looked fine and w/o even hinting at showing too much enthusiastic buying. It would have been fairly close to perfect if one had had other reasons to buy the company. Or so is my opinion.

       Even in early Dec it would not have been as close to “perfect” to buy as I would have liked had I been thinking of buying it. I doubt the Bollinger Bands would have been nice and narrow at that time. You do not need to have the Bollinger Bands, really. You just need to see really little price movement for a long time, in other words little volatility. You want little daily or weekly price movement yet a net price movement that edges upwards, preferably curves upwards, ever so subtly over longer time periods. It is pleasant to have something a rising OBV for confirmation or other 2ndary signs as well as the larger signs of rising subtly over rising moving averages that themselves are not getting overly excited. These are ways of looking for a “perfect” chart so you can buy something cheaply before it rises too high too fast, whether to continue upward after that or to come back down for a while.

       (Sometimes it can be best to look without any oscillators or even any MA lines though. Just the chart itself.)
