Here is the culprit responsible for the AGG.V pop this week….

   It reminds me of NXS in the old days, very good promo, but in the end you have to deliver. I am sure AGG will deliver, but other companies too, with less volatile stock price.

   I believe it is important to study this link and not just rely on my comments. Think about this link carefully. The piece is not at all subtle. It is overtly a paid advertisement comparing AGG to prominent mainstays including Barrick, RGLD and FNV. I could describe more about how little it states about AGG that’s substantive. Note that I do not mean to imply anything bad or good about AGG’s actual prospects. I merely imply that anyone who bought on the basis of this piece did not buy sensibly. Actually rather foolishly. I used to think badly of “Otto” for calling people “stupid” for following promotions, but I am afraid that even though he might be pleasanter, I have to sympathize with him. Just look at this piece!!! Do people have an urge to throw away money? I wish they’d just send it to me!!!

   Presumably some pros, part of this promotion or not, will see the market jumping when people buy as a result of this advertisement, and may play it. It’s hard to blame them, really, I suppose. That’s what they do.

   Others — this is a TA site, so here’s the comment on TA — will note a “breakout”, which will be as defined by some standard TA criterion or criteria. These people may then buy it. The TA-based buying may thus feed on advertisement-based buying. Then TA may feed on TA. Subscription services specializing in TA may catch on even w/o the authors having been offered options or other deals. The TA may fit reasonable patterns. After all, there is legitimate buying. The subscription services will be correct. It will probably continue to go up, and possibly in quite the remarkable fashion.

   But then there is the bad news. Maybe it is a temporary downturn in gold prices. Then there’s another piece of bad news. Maybe someone writes a piece that the metallurgy is horrible, or that there have never been decent or at least consistent drill results. Maybe one of the insiders is alleged to have done something unusually corrupt at another company. Perhaps the workforce is badly affected by drug-resistant malaria and on top of that is being attacked by illegal miners. There is a lawsuit over boundaries, or the government tries to extract a much higher royalty. 2 of the above; 3 of the above. (I am making all these examples up and have absolutely no hint of any knowledge that any such thing has occurred or will occur with AGG, which may well be a fine company and might well be good to research as a legitimate and sound investment.)

   Then all the people who bought with extreme naivety on the basis of the most obvious advertisement, or the TA that showed buying of a breakout based on naive buying of an illiquid stock, or the TA that showed buying on the basis of the other TA, will do the cartoon-character-walking-off-the-cliff-looking-down and panic sell. The TA will confirm that share price is going down, not up!

     You can buy the hype and then sell after the blast off….then keep an eye out for the next one

   I have spent perhaps 45 seconds looking. Let me issue the disclaimers that I can be very wrong as a look at my personal record shows, and that the record will include that I have lost out by not having touched highly suspect companies that I could have temporarily done well with and bailed out of. I think I might have owned it once and might theoretically qualify as an ill-willed former shareholder.

   However after 45 seconds of looking at its pedigree just now I personally would not touch it with a 100 m pole. Again, I may lose out, and I have no idea what the geology is. It may have a wonderful deposit.

   And I am not 100% fastidious. Fully disdains Novo. I kept buying even after Spock sold. I bought when Otto at IKN said it was a gamble no more no less (he has persistently and consistently described it that way), rode it up, took my partial profits to get back what I for what I paid for it — and am still happy to hold the residual. I personally have always felt of it as an interesting legitimate extreme gamble.

   My own comments on AGG are my own frequently wrong opinion. I personally would not recommend going by my specific opinions — or those of anyone else’s. I do recommend going by study of a company’s background, of what has happened to other companies with similar insiders/sponsors; balance sheets to the extent one can read them, what entities own the company are associated with the company etc, all that, before buying, unless speculation and investing is but an expensive hobby, like collecting fleets of pretty sailboats.

   For the reasons I have given above, as a personal opinion I do not think that breakout on relative volume is a useful indicator unless one is willing to exert extreme caution, prepared to sell at once at any time. Better if one is buying on TA is to buy on something like slow accumulation, especially a history of slow accumulation during languishing metals prices. Even then one does well to look at insiders, history of associations, potential financial obligations, and so forth.

   My flawed opinion.
