As I understand it, Fully, dis-inflation is a slowing in the rate of inflation. A deflationary impulse might begin with dis-inflation.
Correct on the distinction.
BUT … if you want genuine understanding, “inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon” (Milt).
That means you focus on CREDIT, LOANS, & DEBT ISSUANCE, not the price of a Big Mac.
But Snider is probably correct, that global money supply (=debt) includes dollars, eurodollars, and xenodollars … The latter perhaps most important of all … dollar loans issued by Shadow Banks in China. Hence the market bounce in late Dec on the MASSIVE credit issuance by PBOC. Which they’ve said is now done.
