Year in review PM’s
YOY 2017
(Edited off daily values) Values from Investing.com
$USD Index ICE 102.29 – 91.58 = 10.5% loss
$Gold Comex 1150.00 – 1308.70 = 13.8% gain
$WTIC Futures 53.72 – 60.24 = 12.1% gain
$GDX NYSE 21.76 – 23.24 = 6.8% gain
(Edited off daily values)
Gains in Gold were nullified by loss in purchasing power of the $US. Expenses for the miners via $WTIC have increased. IMO PM’s in general needed more than $USD action in 2017. Keep in mind the GDX is in $US as well.
That’s great info Red
Pretty Dismal
Gold in Euro was flat I suppose
It’s sobering thought that buying and holding a Broad based PM ETF while Gold rose $106 US resulted in a loss in 2017. It also shows the that Gold bullion held it’s purchasing power for 2017. Silver did decline over the same period 2.3%, maybe things would be different if Silver carried it’s weight?
The YOY numbers above are the reasons why I became interested in charting as opposed to the Buy/Hold technique in passive type funds which I invested in in the past. Thanks to your site and your group of talented chart gurus and fundamental analysis people I managed to reap a very tidy gain buying and selling the broad(PM)market. I don’t go into a trade now without a clear exit scenario(s).
IMO It also shows why some of the PM’s are flat at best during 2018 Gold run.
Fantastic Red Label…You beat the PM Indices….not many do !
This is a fascinating but tough sector
Here’s to a even better 2018 for all PM Afectionados.
This is a very tough sector. It shows that some of your paid services are worth every penny as opposed to other scenarios if they can navigate this sector and produce the numbers they do, not that I’m using a paid service.
I will continue with a 20% portion of my portfolio in the PM’s for 2018 with the option of increasing or decreasing exposure as the market develops.
Wait… You’re not saying Gold is NOT in a bull market, are you? 😉
Check out my earlier post from today: https://goldtadise.com/?p=420265
I think it fits together—That being said, 2018 may be the year that the golden bull really starts…
Exactly Sgt. I do not consider this a Bull Market yet (And I meen yet). I consider this a Market just like any other at the moment. Things can and do change quickly I’ll be waiting to my increase or decrease my exposure accordingly. I read your post from earlier today it is much appreciated. Thanks for posting.
I appreciate everybody’s post Bull Bear or sideways it gives a good perspective of market sentiment.
May everybody prosper in 2018 even the Crypto crew lol!
