In principle, it’s a great idea and solution to sound money in modern era. Forms of this has been tried here and there.
Here’s the fine print: When a transaction is made, the collectable (gold) is sold. In the US, its a 28% flat tax rate. So does the card charge also charge an additional 28% when the item is purchased or does the person need to hold every receipt and/or transaction log to consolidate at the end of the year? Sounds like a real pain to use if you are the end user.
Then there is the question of the white sheet referred to in Element’s position; a mix of futures corroborated with morningstar’s angle.
But yes, Spock is a rock star.
