Defense minister reiterates aggressive policy
Cornered by China’s increasingly aggressive salami-slicing tactics, Taiwan’s defense ministry last week reminded China that it will fire at intruding People’s Liberation Army (PLA) forces even if they don’t fire first, a repetition by Taiwan’s defense minister Chiu Kuo-cheng of a doctrine first enunciated by Chiu in October 2022, when he said the Taiwan military would view any crossing of aircraft or vessels as a first strike.

Ain’t gonna happen. Within five years they will be negotiating their re-integration with the mainland. The whole world recognizes that Taiwan is part of China. It is known in the west as the “One China Policy”. Why do we pretend otherwise?
You keep repeating the same thing. It doesn’t matter what WE or the rest of the world thinks, what matters is what Taiwan thinks. Tactically they may believe that they have to negotiate but if that was their real belief it would have happened already. Their saying that they will fire on any incoming vessels and or aircraft may play into the mainlands hand. They never want to be seen as the aggressor so by pretending to conduct drills or whatever they want to label their exercises as, if Taiwan did actually open fire on them, the Chinese could continue forward and say they were defending themselves.
