A conference held at the University of Alberta that received federal funding featured speakers who either supported designated terror groups or celebrated the Oct. 7 atrocities in Israel.
The “Mediations of Racial Capitalism Conference” is a three-part lecture series aimed at highlighting “the constitutively racial character of capitalism in its complex intersections with structures of settler colonialism, anti-Blackness, heteropatriarchy, and empire,” according to a website promoting the event. On Feb. 9, it featured at least four academics who have published controversial statements on social media about the Israel-Hamas war.
