Hope Cottage on Brunswick Street is reopening and offering two sit-down meals five days a week. Only people who can provide proof of vaccination are allowed inside to eat while others will be offered a takeaway meal.
“Up until last Friday, soup kitchens were not exempted from the province’s proof of vaccine requirement. The provincial policy had exempted programs and services for vulnerable populations that can’t be offered virtually qualified for the exemption, “except if meals are offered.”
On Friday afternoon the province changed the policy exempting soup kitchens. The move came after The Chronicle Herald inquired with the Department of Health and Wellness about the policy.”
