AGE INCLUSIVITY
Hey….we are now ALL about Inclusivity right ?
There Must be a certain number of Blacks Hispanics Asians Hindus Moslems Jews ( well maybe not Jews)
Lesbians Queers ( cant’ believe that’s an allowed term now) trans welcomed and indeed mandated in every corner and institution of our society
BUT…one group gets left out
Nobody gives a rip about Septagenarians or Octagenarians.
No one want’s us on their ball team
Lets Start a “Movement”
Maybe call it the Bowel Movement.
Sheesh
Where’s our safe space ?
OLD LIVES MATTER !
Hahaha. Poor Fully. We all love you and support your old ass (not talking about your donkey) 🙂 haha.
FGC, you raise a good point. Problem is the powers that be have targeted our demographic for extinction with this “virus”. They wanted to get as many as possible dead to save money on SSI and Medicare.
You are onto something, Fully.
Was at the pool last evening and there was a woman there who chatted with us nonstop for 30+ minutes. She is 90.
Somehow she got talking about her life with her husband and their skiing adventures around the world. Also talked about how they bought a small piece of land on a lake, put up a tent with a wood floor which eventually grew into a makeshift cabin. Later they tore it all down and built a real house, which their son now uses with his family.
They came from meager beginnings and built a life of adventure, fun, and wealth. I would love to do a legacy video with her (a business I started and failed, like most of my life.)
A long way of saying us old folks (70+) have much wisdom and valuable experience to share. Not the least of which is how life used to be, ought to be. The values of my parents were pretty well cookie cutters of their parents (my grandparents.) Life may have changed in a material sense, but the common glue of shared values held generations (and our country) together. Ignoring, or cancelling, or wiping out this treasure of wisdom is yet another crime of today’s world.
Further, I believe we oldies can show the way in how we live now. I never dreamed that at my age, for example, I would be traveling to Montana for a week of hiking with my son this September. We aim to hike 50+ miles into those glacial mountains. Or learning to play pickle ball. Or telling the younger folks not to become gold bugs. (Sorry, had to work that in there.)
Despite slowing down and losing some or much physical capabilities, we collectively are a force to be reckoned with. I recall a guy in his late 70s (died in his 80s) who changed the state of California forever by getting a law passed restricting how much the state government could tax homeowners. It was revolutionary. The guy had boundless zeal and never quit and got it done.
Do not underestimate a pissed off old guy. (Or woman.)
All valid points. I’m over 60 and live in a ski resort community that, over the past 10 years, has focussed exclusively on attracting young families to live here. It’s as if they don’t want anyone past breeding age to live here.
There are zero activities for adults. Well okay there is one: an art club. But dance classes, tennis lessons etc? All “under 18” only.
Seems no one here realizes that we too have energy and brains….
(yes, seriously thinking about moving)
