Seems the short position is still at a high, however the days to cover is down about 45% since last published number (2 weeks old).

Q:  Are dark pool trades counted in short interest figures?

A: Yes, they are. The primary difference between a dark pool and a lit exchange is that pre-trade information such as bid/ask are not available. However, once a trade is made, dark pool trades are published on the tape and tracked like every other trade. When it is time to report, any open short positions are reported, no matter what type of trading venue those shares were acquired on.”

Investopedia:

Q: “Why may an institutional trader want to route an order to a dark pool instead of a regular exchange transparent limit order book?”

A: Order matching is central to both exchanges and dark pools. As we have learned, the major difference is publicly visible trading vs private and anonymized trading. The benefits of dark pools cater to institutional investors and brokers, allowing them to execute large trades with minimal market impact. Sep 11, 2024

My comment – In case anyone had any doubts about how the market we see isn’t the market that big/real money trades.  Also, without a transparent bid-ask, what’s to say there is a ‘real’ party behind either side or perhaps a government?
