Well, I am deeply saddened.
At first, I understood the rationale for the tariffs. I still do. It’s true, we do have a problem with drugs up here and we do have a problem with uncontrolled immigration. And I understand that this was to have been a way to get our (incompetent leftist) political leaders on board with a vision to make North America a better place than it currently is.
Unfortunately our so-called leaders have decided on the approach of you hit me and I’ll hit you harder. I wish they would have gone with negotiating and back and forth. But they didn’t.
No, what saddens me is that this is one more thing to divide us. I used to feel a kinship with anyone, American or Canadian or, heck, anywhere in the world who was “one of us” in terms of thinking. But then I read the attached Zero Hedge article in this post. And it seems the same Americans with whom I thought I shared a common vision are now resorting to things like “50% of Canadians elected a commie government. They need us to take them over” “Canada is a useless country. Tax ’em harder and let them come begging to the US”
Okay, I’m female, I’m more emotional. But I am sitting here crying, because Columbia and I were all excited about an upcoming Trader Joe’s run to Bellingham, and now I’m thinking do I really want to come to a country and spend $$ (with an exchange rate that’s falling off a cliff) where the Democrats hate me and wanted me punished because I espoused Trump’s views and now the Trump supporters hate me and want me punished because of my government? Trump’s mission with these tariffs was to get our governments to clean up their act and come to an agreement. Sadly, a side effect has been to drive yet another wedge between people who were once on common ground.
