   It’s heartbreaking. It will take months to recover for some of these people. Many will move away.

   We survived Hurricane Irene in Vermont 2011. 9″ of water in 24 hours. I was one of the lucky ones. Spent quite a few days shovelling out the basements of two buildings that were maybe 15 ft above the high water line of the babbling brook that passed through the property. The 10ft wide brook in our backyard became 150 ft wide, spilled over the road and flooded the homes on the other side, continued down the valley causing devastation upon everything in it’s way. Most of the approaches to small bridges were taken out if not the whole bridge. People were trapped.

   The worst part was the dismal actions of FEMA. They descended upon the State and ordered us to stop all remedial work on making the backroads passable and restoring road accesses across driveway culverts.

   The Yankees having that can do attitude waited for them to leave and we finished the job with our tractors. They quoted some large fine if we didn’t stand down. Ha!
   We knew they weren’t coming back anytime soon.

   This really made me aware of the incompetence of the various agencies of Government. YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN! Waiting for help is a losing proposition.

   Same as a home invasion and waiting for a response that will never arrive. The old-time Vermonters would just show their weapon and the attempt would be foiled.
   And they want to take our guns away. Crime is low there. Domestic violence is the common theme. Facing an unknown offender is rare as that person would not know what weapon they will face.

   On another note. Just had 2-3cm of driving hail, rain and snow here. Temps dropped 18 degrees C in less than an hour went from 70F to 38F for our US friends) Damn the Global Warming crowd or should I now say the Climate Change folks are going to have a bird over this event.
