How much of this positioning is to ensure that information/news from outside China does not make it into China. The internet is already censored heavily and by blocking all mail there are minimal ways for citizens to be aware of the outside world.
The virus is airborne and transmits person to person via the air.
The belief that it can transmit via mail is dogshit.
So clearly they want to stop international mail into China, and need an excuse to do so.
