Well, the people that READ at all, seem to know what to read.
The rest of world, that only watches TV or Hulu, listens to NPR, or plays video games, remains oblivious. They are just after the bread and circuses of course. Same as it ever was.
If you look at best seller lists for the past thirty years, you would conclude that only conservatives read anymore.
