While I am sure the Chinese have probably known about this, by making it public almost forces them to do something about it. China has been adamant that US forces in Taiwan would justify(in their mind) grounds for invasion. If it were any administration other than the inept Biden clown show, I’d say the timing was on purpose, figuring that the training mission was near completion and the US could quietly negotiate their removal to allow China to save face without having to take drastic military action. It’s all part of the orchestrated “puppet show”.
