Biden announced in mid April that the US troop pullout would begin on May 1 and be completed by Sept 11. Why would any thinking American still be in that hell hole in mid August?? Boogles my mind.
They were told to sit tight and wait their turn for evacuation — when working with the military that’s a darn good reason to do exactly as you are told. They didn’t expect to be lied to and abandoned. Lots of personal stories showing up via social media………..
You are correct. The signs were clear. Hubris, stupidity are the only words I come up with. Most, if not all of the people trapped there are Afghan nationals with dual citizenship or western reporters who are delusional.

My thoughts and prayers are for the US and British soldiers at the airport. Contingency plans did not allow for 30K civilians on the airfield.
