Why Beijing Thinks It Can Beat Trump – FP Live
China’s elites have a new confidence in their own system.
Regardless of who is more effective at weakening the other’s economy or outfoxes the other at the negotiating table, the real contest for systemic competition, at least for now, is over. Whether in celebration or mourning, to most Chinese, Trump’s red tie is a white flag.

AND
REVOKE THE VISAS.
It’s better to revoke all 350K student visas now, get them on a plane, and let American students take those billets.
Two points regarding Bannon’s recommendation on Chinese student visas. First while I am not a big Steve Bannon fan, he is 100% correct. It isn’t just Chinese college students. It is every Chinese citizen who is allowed to travel and work or study abroad, particularly in the US. The Chinese govt. requires them, for all intents and purposes, to be spies. Opening up those spots will also put some downward pressure on constantly rising tuition costs. The second point is likely a tell. Trump is against it, because he expects and wants to reach a deal with China regarding the tariffs. Implementing Bannon’s suggestion would mean no deal is coming anytime soon. Announcing the revocation of all the student visas, might be what gets China to change their mind and agree to some settlement?
