Aristotle said (and libertarians need to hear) …
pedro thinks this is the lesson R’s need to pay attention to, as evidenced yesterday in FL and WI.
R’s underperformed and failed, due to their “low propensity” engagement.
Libertarians want to be “left alone”.
That won’t cut it in our “hyper-politicized” society.
“The real naiveté lies in believing that we can sustain democracy without cultivating the moral and civic virtues that make it possible.”

Apathy is the enemy of Freedom
Vote Vote Vote
Half of America doesn’t vote, even in presidential years.
It would be interesting to canvas why. (Is it the same folks every time, for one?)
Some of it is apathy.
Some is cynicism.
Civic involvement is a different matter.
In the distant past, women didn’t work and were sometimes involved in school boards and local affairs.
Today, most parents with children both work, and don’t have spare time, or control over their time, to do that.
Other people would rather spend their free time in nature, or with animals, than other humans.
Civic affairs inevitably stirs up conflict, and stress, and who wants more of that?
(some people DO, but if you aren’t type A, you don’t)
One thing that DOESN’T exist in our society, is Local Community Network functionality.
Variations on what craigslist started out as.
Or what I envisioned while at the FCC, with Low Power Radio licensing (opposed by NAB).
Or a local form of twitter, facilitating engagement focused around local matters.
I sense a vacuum there.
