Not sure if anyone here knows the extent and reach of US RICO Laws.

Do RICO laws only apply to US Citizens or can they be applied to anyone within US Jurisdiction?

It’s debatable but I believe Trump’s Tariff threats have the goal of ridding Canada of CCP influence in all forms. It’s a threat.
Drugs, money laundering, human trafficking, and every type of criminal enterprise. According to investigative journalist Sam Cooper, US authorities know who these nefarious players are. So do the RCMP but they are ham stringed by the highest levels of the Canadian and Provincial Governments due to obvious conflicts of interest. The CCP apparently have deep tendrils in Canada.

Trump forced Canada to spend $1.3 Billion on border surveillance. Human and drug trafficking. If effective, this may stem the flow and make it much more difficult for the “cartels” and other groups.

Canada does not have an equivalent law to RICO as far as I am aware.
If the US catches these “cartels” at the border, will they apply their RICO laws to these groups? How deep a reach does the US Govt have? Under RICO can they do their due diligence and determine what assets were obtained through criminal actions? Can they take Canadian real estate if that is the case?

I ask because as a result of the “Vancouver Model” of money laundering we have 1000’s of empty homes, condos and occupied rental properties in the BC Lower Mainland. I’ve spoken to some young people in my area who only deal with a rental agent and have no idea who owns the place. They do mention that the same owner may own 10-20 homes in the area. The rental rate would not cover a mortgage. They believe that these are assets that are just to park money. Profit is not the main driver.

The average dwelling (includes detached, attached and condo) is $1.2 million. The average Family income after tax is $87,000
which allows for a home value of $347,000. If the family has equity before purchasing the price is of course higher.

Thus, the income to home value is seriously out of whack and can be explained by the above model.

So can the US grab this real estate under the RICO Laws? Canada has 30 days from this deal to prove they are addressing CCP and other foreign influence on Canada. The Tariffs are just the penalty.
