If you tax what you make, and not what you don’t make, you haven’t done much. The essential problem is that we have offshored our manufacturing sector, so we no longer make most things. To bring back manufacturing, you need to tax the things you don’t make so that companies will manufacture here to avoid the tariffs. That will cause price rises. There is no easy way out of the catastrophic situation our corrupt governments have allowed to develop.
