Liberal Leader Mark Carney said on Friday that his government would provide an initial $150-million annual funding increase to CBC and Radio-Canada as part of a new mandate for the public broadcaster.
When we compare ourselves to the U.K., France or Germany, we see that our public broadcaster is underfunded,” Carney said in French during a campaign stop in Montreal. “That has to change.”

I’m a Canadian, and I haven’t watched a CBC production in thirty years – even “Hockey Night In Canada”! DonCherry’s cultural displacement was unsurprising to me. The surprise was that he lasted as long as he did. Stick tap to him, and his latest “Blue”. He loved his Bull Terriers.
One of my favourite artists is Joni Mitchell. Imagine; her incredible album was called “Blue”, and one of her brilliant songs on that album was called “The River”, a story of skating away from all one’s troubles. There are probably no two Canadians who differ more than those two, yet fate would cast them in a similar milieu. What a fucking country we will have lost, if fate has it’s way!
Joni and Neil Young were clot shot nazis, much to my chagrin. I can’t listen to Neil anymore. He has displaced, in my mind, his artist’s voice with his political voice. Achtung Baby, and fuck you! Strangely, I can’t subject Joni’s ‘Blue” to the same standard. I don’t really think it a breach in logic so much as I think it an exception of same. Some things are exceptions – we all know it – and we all make them. ” I wish there were a river I could skate away on.”
I’m not sure why, but this seems to be my river.
Neil Young. Always musically gifted but lyrically – quit listening to a lot of it – “Even Richard Nixon has got Soul”. His pontification used to be ho-hum, I wasn’t an adult in that era, however after C19 and other BS, it’s now unbearable. Will admit though I can still enjoy his a-political tunes – “Like a Hurricane” for example. I’ve also quit watching TV (any) or going to Movies.
