…commits £3 billion of British support each year, to be continued indefinitely…

Prime Minister Keir Starmer was in Keiv on Thursday where he announced a “historic” 100-year partnership with Ukraine, committing the United Kingdom to supporting the country “beyond this terrible war” and into a future so that it can be “free and thriving again”.

He said while meeting with President Zelensky that “right now Putin shows no signs of wanting to stop” his “unrelenting aggression” and that the unprecedented agreement reflects the “huge affection between our two nations.”

  • Under the agreement, London and Kyiv pledged to “deepen defence cooperation” and boost Ukraine’s defence industry, recognizing it as a “future NATO ally”.
  • Starmer said his government would also deliver a “mobile air defence system” and bolster maritime cooperation through new security frameworks in the Baltic Sea, Black Sea and Sea of Azov.
  • Various treaties that are part of the 100-year agreement are expected to be introduced to the United Kingdom Parliament in the coming weeks.

It seems to me that the new UK government is effectively joining in the conflict agains’t Russia in Ukraine by committing to fund it for the next 100 years UNLESS the Russia government retreats in defeat (giving up their Russian citizens & allowing NATO to park on their doorstep ). Alternatively Russia could decide to complete the task of de-Nazifying and neutralizing Ukraine by reclassifying this conflict from a “special military operation” to “existential war”, conquer the entire country and remove the threat.

So will it be Russian subjugation (to NATO), 100 years of war (direct or guerrila) OR finish the conflict already underway and eliminate the threat?

What will be Russia’s response will be to this new declaration of war from the UK? How will Trump respond to the UK  “front running” his plans to negotiate peace upon his inauguration? Will this cause the dissolution of NATO as Article 5 can hardly be enacted when the UK is the party that has unilaterally declared war?
