Great Britain Cracks Down On “Non-Crime Hate” Speech, Including Playground Taunts – Turley
In my book, The Indispensable Right, I discuss how free speech is in a free fall in Great Britain, where officials continue to crack down on an ever-widening array of viewpoints. Some of these actions are designated as “non-crime hate” but are still the subject of law enforcement actions. According to the Daily Mail, they now include children who have been pulled in for calling other children schoolyard names like “retard” or saying that other children smell “like fish.”
It is chilling in its ambiguity and scope. It only requires the perception of either a victim or a third party that a statement is motivated by hostility or prejudice based on a person’s race, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or transgender identity.
The HCOG stresses, “The victim does not have to justify or provide evidence of their belief, and police officers or staff should not directly challenge this perception. Evidence of the hostility is not required.”
That guarantees the maximal level of investigation and documentation of speech incidents. The chilling effect on free speech is glacial.
It is sad that the country from which we sprang has become a powerless little fascist state. Yet, if they wish to do that to themselves, should we really care? Britain is no longer “Great”. In fact, it is insignificant.
We should care because it will happen here next!
Only if we are as pathetic as the British. We need not be. It’s up to us.
I am going to interject here. I don’t think “pathetic” is quite the descriptor for this. Here’s the thing: the populace did have a choice and could have voted for Farage. Unfortunately many did not. However, to say “they voted for this” is not quite true.
Here’s the thing: let’s take the example of the recent US election. Both parties were clear up front as to what their platforms were. You want open borders, SOGI, promotion of trans lifestyle etc? Vote Democrat. You want the country to get healthy and have a strong economy? Vote Trump.
Canadian election 2021. Do you agree with the lockdowns and the mandates etc? Vote Turd-o (and no, at the time we did not have a decent Conservative candidate)
Now let’s take the recent UK election. Nowhere in the Labour Party platform was any of what’s now becoming law even mentioned. No one saw it coming because there was no reason to suspect it would. It seems that the new leader quickly turned on the people, doing things that were never even alluded to during campaigning.
So in my mind we should stop being smug and judgemental, and instead realize that no one, absolutely no one (and especially in politics) can be trusted. I am not saying this will happen, but what if Pollievre were elected on his current platform and then did a 180 degree pivot and proceeded to do some of the same things as are happening overseas that we are finding abhorrent? I am voting Conservative. So all of a sudden all Canadians are judged as “pathetic” because their leader turns on them?
I am in agreement with Kewl2. We should care because it could happen anywhere.
Use whatever descriptor you wish if you don’t like pathetic, but none of them should infer independence or freedom. Since the British borg rid themselves of Thatcher it has been one toady after another in the PMs office. That’s a long time in which the great unwashed could have put a political halter on either of the main parties, or indeed, built another more responsive one. They didn’t. Even after they voted for Brexit those parties ignored their wishes without much complaint. The British people are compliant, so they get what they allow. As to Canada, I am pretty much alone here for having little faith in the next Conservative government, even if I find Poilievre impressive. Canadians are very bit as compliant as the Brits. I suppose it’s our political lineage. The Truckers showed us how to make real change. We didn’t follow through.
“but what if Pollievre were elected on his current platform and then did a 180 degree pivot and proceeded to do some of the same things as are happening overseas that we are finding abhorrent?”
Read up on FDR regarding his campaign from 1932, and contrast that with what he did once in the WH. A complete 180. Trump will likely come up short, but he TRIES to keep his word. Lawyers should be prohibited from public office. If their mouths are open, they are lying.
Simple remedy and it WILL happen
“Normal” Brits need to accuse their woke libtard friends neighbors clergy politicians of Hate speach. be offended …be a victim
Make a formal declaration and do it early and often…all day every day
Organize your like minded friends…swamp the swamp
That woked in one of the Regions over there ( Scotland ?) …and the rescinded this action pronto
Overwhelm the system…HA
That is exactly what I intend to do if that ever comes here.
“Turd-o called me a misogynist and a racist” “Turd-o said people like me should not be tolerated. I am offended because he inferred that I should be exterminated” “Turd-o called me childish for not taking a poison shot”.
I would encourage everyone on this forum to do the same 🙂
