CYBER ATTACK UPDATE
My neighbour and I took a ride around our area on the advice of another neighbor regarding the cause of our communications outage…which is still sporatically on going .
We found the “spot” which was “ground zero” for this “interuption of all our Bell Canada services.
It was on a remote sideroad
We have a very thick cable that runs all through our township hung on polls like hydro wires but much thicker
When we came upon the site the cable was down on the ground and there was a Bell Canada Repair guy and his truck parked there
He told us that at 11:30 PM friday night someone took a ladder and went up a pole and cut the line…then went to the next pole and did the same
Securing about 100 feet of cable ( worth a couple hunderd bucks for the copper content )
He has temprarily reconnected the line with a much smaller wire and they have to order another piece and eventually splice it in
Only some of the residences have landline and internet and cellular signnals restored ( so far I am one of the lucky ones )
It could take a week or more to fix it permanently
Meanwhile now that the line is down on the ground in that spot they are concerned that the perpetrators will come back for another round !
he said this is now happening more frequently
Of course there are fibre optic lines being laid undeground in many areas but our relatlvely sparse location is way down the list apparerently
I just secured the last Starlink Kit in our local Best Buy…$500 plus tax
Going to get it installed asap and it can also be used for the phone
sheesh
Around ‘here’, T Mobile has been rolling out wireless modem routers, designed to serve broadband home customers located near cell towers. No copper, no coax, no fiber, just RF but not to your phone but your home LAN. Cheaper than competitors but won’t reach GB speeds. 20-200 seems doable.
You can be rural but near a major highway and likely get service, since service to highway travelers will be prioritized.
I actually switched out my landline served internet connection ( through a second phone line) last year
I have a small dish which picks up the signal from a local tower now…very fast
BUT that tower is apparently the problem…The cable they cut feeds the tower which then broadcasts the signal . Also there is a smaller “phone line cable they attach to the internet cable which was also cut…so No comunications were available
Same setup at my brothers’ in Sask. 5G everywhere on the cellphone while driving I as well.
Yup, that’s called the “backhaul” connection.
