Probably going to get roasted but here goes. I watched the full speech this morning. I was wrong. Kamala did much better than I expected. I hate to say it but she did. The striking feature, which seems to have become the DNC’s platform, was a total inversion of the truth. Emotional appeal mattered. Not the facts. Those were turned on their head. Last night was an exhibition of Gavin Newsom-level gaslighting. Blaming Trump & Republicans for problems she created. But it worked. I didn’t feel the expected discomfort or internal cringe from Kamala’s audience. They didn’t wince at the lies and utter hypocrisy. They didn’t care that Kamala was promising to fix the very problems she created. They applauded and cheered. They let themselves be persuaded she was right when everything she said was a lie. It was unnerving. Her entire speech was an obvious fabrication. We can fact-check it into oblivion. But none of that seemed to matter. Dems needed someone they could rally around. So much so that a woman who was widely disliked one month ago is now seen as their savior. It was frightening to watch. Democrats emotions are at a high coming off a convention week. It’s always tough to judge from an emotional vantage point. Next week may look very different with some distance from her speech. But Kamala didn’t crumble under the weight of the convention. She didn’t totally fumble her speech. It wasn’t great but it didn’t have to be. Expectations were low. She beat those expectations. She didn’t blow herself up. I found it to be disconcerting. Media cycles have shortened. Facts no longer seem to matter. As much as I want to ridicule her incessant disregard for the truth I have to admit that, for last night at least, it worked. And that’s frightening. Last night may end up being her peak. I hope the Trump campaign is ready to unleash real firepower against Kamala (and especially Walz) now that the convention is over. But I also have to be honest. I was hoping Kamala would be exposed. I was hoping she would self-immolate. She didn’t. Kamala showed that was willing to say anything – no matter the underlying truth. And, for last night at least, it worked. Democrats bought into her lies. They cheered them. Which is scary. Kamala, and the entirety of the lying DNC media complex which elevates her, needs to be taken seriously. She is a threat to everything we hold dear. She should be treated as such.
I agree with the comments by @themarketswork on Kamala’s speech. I found it frightening for its complete lack of specifics. In terms familiar to those who lived through the Cold War, it was “balm for the masses.” The frightening part comes from knowing the truth about the litany of lies in the speech, the false premises underlying much of her pitch, and her administration’s corrupt use of lawfare, censorship, and propaganda spewing to gain and hold power at all costs.
Why would anyone expect anything different. It was the DNC convention. If she has debates she will get exposed. If there was a media that wasn’t partisan and actually asked her questions she would get exposed.
