Truth writ large. Methinks the Amish will thrive no matter what
“No one listened to economist Roger Babson in 1929 and no one is listening to Senator Thomas Massie 2020. Over twenty years ago I saw a special about the Amish community in Pennsylvania. The part I most remember is one where the men were building a barn. Then the scene went to some little children, the youngest probably around two! They had little pails of nails and other things. It was asked of one of the women watching them, what were they doing. I will never forget her answer. ‘These are some little things the men will need, that we let the children help with. We teach our children from an early age that there’s a time to work and a time to play.’ This is what we’re losing, that nothing of lasting value, certainly not civilizations, can be built or sustained without work…not government.” – JR
