These are limestone quarries repurposed over the years as storage facilities and distribution points. I read about a few of these years ago.
The abundant limestone is used in the massive concrete work.
Maybe this is why some of the neocons don’t care about starting a nuclear war.
My wife’s mother who lives next to Lake Victoria of Kenya, assures me that there are two kinds of people living underground and one of those people are giants. She knows because her mother told her about it and her grandmother in turn had told her Mum. So its a family story going back a very long time to a day when the family used to live closer to South Africa. Anyway, there are cannibals down there and technology and other mischief and these races of people don’t spend much time above ground but rather reside full time in a network of tunnels right under our feet. The funny thing was she told me without prompting one afternoon. I never asked although I had been hearing stories like it for years. So there is an active oral tradition in African tribes about races of strange people who live a subterranean life.
