Loading ...Russian Sanctions – Update
It could go either way. Yesterday the administration leaked out that the sanctions will target Putin and approx. 500 different targets and or actions.
If this is the extent, then as I suggested, it would be a nothing burger, more of the same that has existed for two years. I still couldn’t find a specific time for any official announcement.
Again, if it occurs after 4PM, there is still a possibility of a surprise seizure of the Russian reserve assets frozen up until now? If that isn’t the case they will probably do it during market hours and will just be a big snoozer.
I posted the original piece yesterday morning at 6:20. I hadn’t received my WSJ yet so had no way of knowing there was a major editorial in it urging Biden to seize the Russian assets. The leaks yesterday from the administration made no mention of that as even a consideration so either they have ruled it out or are playing coy and looking to pull a surprise. I still believe it is quite possible and the WSJ editorial was a plant to give Biden cover for doing so. The timing of the announcement IS everything. During the day almost definitely a nothing burger, after 4PM odds increase greatly of an asset seizure.

Could be a BIG story
So a Nothingburger for now. They announced it. Unless they are saving the Russian assets in case they can’t pass a Ukraine aid package, it will have to wait for down the road, if ever.
