OK, we pretty much expected Jim Jordan wasn’t going to be elected Speaker on the first ballot. The country can move forward in two scenarios and backward in a third. If the Republicans who really want change get their way, maybe Jordan gets voted in after a number of votes. If he is unable to reach the threshold, either the country slips backward if McCarthy somehow gets back in, and it will be mostly business as usual with only minor changes around the edges. However, if the real Republicans who want change can’t convince the rest of the party to get behind Jordan, then it would be better for the country if they hold out and keep the government from doing anything. No Speaker, no new funding for anything. A government shutdown and “let the chips fall where they may.” Let’s see who caves first.
