Recent Kenyan Dollar Comments is Not Project Sandman
Just to be clear, the recent comments out of Kenya from the President that you should get rid of dollars is NOT a story about dollars and it is NOT anything to do with Project Sandman. That project, which still belongs in the conspiracy club, is reported to be about 140 countries who will repudiate dollars all on the same day. Nobody knows if that is real or not. I kind of doubt it. The real story here is domestic though.
You can see by the attached chart of Kenyan Shillings versus USD that in a few months time, price will hit a key long term resistance channel. I am pegging the reversal to come into play during late July.
Once the resistance line is struck it is presumed that Shillings will start to strengthen and dollars fall. That is not guaranteed of course. But on a probability basis it is certainly likely. The Kenyan President (who is a Billionaire by the way) obviously knows how to read a chart. That makes him a lot smarter than most US politicians. He is making a calculated bet that the dollar brokers in Kenya will soon be losing money on exchange rates. He is not referring to a repudiation of US Dollars though!!!
Appreciate the explanation – thx
Glad it helped. I love charts!
Farmer — just found this — passing it on just FYI — Kenyan President William Ruto signed an agreement with Saudi Arabia to buy oil for Kenyan shillings instead of US dollars. –> https://twitter.com/PeImeniPusha/status/1640352949883883524
1st comment on thread seems more plausible……….
Very interesting. Thanks Kewl2. That adds something to this story. I had already come across an article (posted in your earlier thread) about how Kenya was reactivating its Central Banks Foreign Interbank Exchange Mechanism in order to be able to trade in its own currency. Your new comment bolsters that. Since Saudi Arabia is a major customer of Kenya the banks there will easily be able to accomodate trading directly in Shillings.
Here is what I know about it: There are tens of thousands of Kenyans working in Saudi and sending money back home to their families. So a lot of exchange passes hands between the two countries. Now that Saudi Arabia has decided to not be confined to its Petro Dollar status it is free to sell oil to Dollar starved African countries in trade for their own currencies which normally would never be used. Fascinating. So this is how the Saudi changes to acceptance of dollars in trade is going to start playing out in the real world. It does not kill the dollar though. It just makes it less essential when buying commodities.
Great stuff guys
The world is changing FAST
Kenya Feel it ?
Oh yes, this is a real eye opener Fully. Great that Kewl2 found the story and posted it. Now we are seeing real world effects of de-dollarization in action. The ideas have come out of the economics laboratory and become a reality we might analyze. Next question is how much money is involved. And then what if every small dollar-poor nation started doing the same thing? Maybe its true the dollar is about to start fading away in stages.
Speaking of Kenya….riots in Nairobi yesterday due to high inflation and food costs rising out of peoples ability to afford them.
