Request for help to phone MPs to ask to revoke Emergency Act invoked by Trudeau
Emergency Act Press Conference: https://www.facebook.com/druthers.net/videos/live-ottawa-feb-15-2022-hug-a-trucker-emergency-act-press-conference/415783453650933/
The truckers are asking people to phone their local constituency representatives and urge them to represent your voice to revoke the Emergency Act since neither condition is being met, namely, there is no critical situation that 1) seriously endangers the lives, health or authority of a province to deal with it, or 2) seriously threatens the ability of the government to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada.
We need to sway the votes to go against Trudeau when he calls for a vote on this. We want to oppose this by memebers of Parliament first, then the second line of defence is the Senate next.
Phone your local MPs who can be found here: https://www.ourcommons.ca/Members/en/constituencies
Select the province, political affiliation and constituency name from the drop down menus to find your local MPs. They need a million phone calls to sway any liberals to switch sides and end the so called emergency. If you can’t phone then email. This is needed to preserve Canada’s freedom and revoke Trudeau’s arrogant actions since he cannot admit he caused this himself dividing the people.
“revoke”
“Trudeau when he calls for a vote on this.”
Confusing.
Is it in force now? (How do you revoke something if its conditional on the vote?)
If so, why bother calling for a vote?
If not in force now, how are arrests being planned?
The parliament has to vote within 7 days on invoking the Emergency Act. This also should have been invoked in Parliament but Trudeau announced it at a press conference instead, bypassing the Parliament debate. If it gets passed there, then the Senate has to vote on it and is the next line of defense. I gathered info. from that online so I’m no expert but if this is not passed in Parliament, then it will be revoked. Trudeau is using this to stop the funding of the truckers.
As I understand it — the EA went into effect immediately upon Trudeau declaring it as being in force at his press conference.
It lasts for 30 days from the moment it is declared – but is extendable by the PM forever in 30 day segments.
Within 10 days the House of Parliament and the Senate must vote to confirm that the EA is approved — if it is defeated in either chamber it is immediately revoked. The PM also can withdraw the EA at any time.
Not sure on this one but if it is NOT approved it may trigger a non-confidence vote which could dissolve the government and force an election. Again not sure as EA has never been used before.
Thanks to you both.
Castreau seemed to dodge questions on when the debate and votes would take place.
Is it up to him to CALL for the debate, as implied?
What if he chooses to sit on his hands?
In the States, we have something called a pocket veto where an executive can just “ignore” a bill until “times up” and it gets vetoed implicitly.
This is also a situation where Castreau’s opponents would file for an injunction with the courts, probably the Supreme Court. If there was merit to the challenge, the move would be suspended, pending full review.
Here is the official wording in the act below.
