It’s hard to toast for New Year’s when so many of you, our friends and loved ones are experiencing difficult times. But we’re ending the year on a note of optimism. Yesterday, we had our first major win.
Since June 2020, many of us have been asking Doug Ford to end the count of daily cases. I first asked Doug to do so as a member of his government in early June 2020. Daily cases never mattered because the virus is so transmissible. Yesterday, finally, the Chief Medical Officer announced a new strategy. He admitted that a key metric used for decisions (hospitalizations) was false and that testing and tracing isn’t practical. The Chief Medical Officer also admitted that we should stop counting cases and focus on the vulnerable and high-risk settings. This is what we’ve been asking for the entirety of 2021.
While this is a partial win, myself, my team and all of our supporters will not rest until all measures against healthy Ontarians, including passports and mandates are completely gone. People and businesses are hurting but Ford is preventing healthy Ontarians from celebrating the holidays or letting venues make a few bucks. So we have a lot of work ahead of us.
For almost two years, the Ford government and Public Health misled Ontarians about the number of COVID patients occupying Ontario hospitals. Dr. Moore confirmed that about 50% of COVID hospitalizations, weren’t people that were in the hospital due to COVID. This was a key metric driving public policy. This is unforgiveable. What else did Doug Ford mislead us about? We will continue to ask questions and demand to know the truth.
Before my year end wishes, I want to thank my immediate and extended team for helping us to advocate for Ontarians and all Canadians. I’m blessed with wonderful friends and staff and I am excited for our work in the year ahead.
I want to end by wishing you and your loved ones a very happy 2022. An end to passports and mandates. No more restrictions on businesses and gatherings. Dignity for LTC residents, kids feeling and being back to normal and the return of Canadian kindness. All of you who lost a job or business must come back and none of us will rest until everyone is back!
My top wish for 2022 is to see friends, constituents and Ontarians happy again. So have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.

THe chief Medical Officer also said he expected a steep rise in cases during January and then a precipitous drop around the end of the month. This seems to me that he has the idea that Omicron will be mild but widespread and that we will then have that herd immunity everyone wants. And that’s the same idea I have. And he is advising Ford so it may work out. I too think that all those people who have lost their jobs over this should be reinstated without loss of seniority etc.
Not publicizing daily cases (which are totally irrelevant anyway) would go a long way to slowing the fear mongering!
