   Not that it changes anything regarding your well taken point but yes, the drug companies and the media companies and many other industries are very concentrated, lobby for laws and regulatory bodies that benefit all in their industry etc. The shareholdings are a completely different thing all together. Given all of the indexes and ETF’s etc. these large investment companies own major positions in almost every large company but only as a proxy for the funds and ETF’s. It isn’t the same direct ownership like when Warren Buffet through Berkshire Hathaway owns a large position in many companies. I don’t think there is any way around the issue given all the institutional ownership and the investment companies indexing and offering comingled products.

     I agree — shareholders are a separate class and not to be confused with the management team (and possibly any “controlling” shareholders). All others are not relevant to the control and execution of day to day business!
