Mark Twain 1835 -1910
An American Icon
Samuel Langhorne Clemens, known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecture:
He had a few things to say that still ring true today…maybe more so than ever.
…………….
” Patriot :The person who can holler the loudest without knowing what he is hollering about”
“Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority . it’s time to pause and reflect”
” There are lies and there are damn lies and then there are statistics”
“Get your facts first and then you can distort them as you please”
” I’m only responsible for what I say , not for what you understand”
” Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt”
“I had a lot of worries in my life . all of which never happened”
“If voting made any difference , they wouldn’t let us do it”
” Those that do not read the news are uninformed , those that do are misinformed”
” The difference between fiction and reality, fiction has to make sense”
“What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know. It’s what we know for sure that just ain’t so.”
Mark Twain
All this and more from a man who had no formal education
🙂
” Twain was born shortly after an appearance of Halley’s Comet, and he predicted that he would “go out with it” as well; he died the day after the comet returned.”

🙂
You forgot this one, although it is argued who really said it. Twain described a mine as “a hole in the ground owned by a liar.”
Thanks Fullgoldcrown, and Aurum Maximus, for sharing these “nuggets” of wisdom (pun intended)
A piece of true Americana! I wonder what his stance could of been on the federal reserve act of 1913…
Yes but unfortunately He died in 1910
thanks for sharing Sir Fully 🙂
another favorite:
“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.”
Thats one I missed …classic 🙂
