Woulda Shoulda Coulda
I’ve followed Royal Gold since its inception. Did I buy it? Nope. Not once. Now it’s “too expensive” which has been my excuse for years. This one gold stock has made many fortunes.
Also this week, I’ve added two new “believers” to our gang. Is that a good thing?
Impressive to say the least.
I owned some when it was so small that —
I was on the mailing list in their small obviously informal office in the 1990s and someone’s daughter, younger than 10, typed in a joke and sent it out to everyone on the emailing list. They then sent out an apology but it was rather charming, and not a horrible joke either. It was an unknown company. It went down lower than when I originally bought it. (Bought a bit more on the way up.) I remember when at gold shows when no one was at their booth, I mean their area was often devoid of visitors except me. Bre-X etc or maybe earlier variants were much more interesting I suppose. I personally thought the idea they presented on their posters looked pretty good though even if it wasn’t one of the ones that all the Experts and paid gurus with the fancy charts, geology jargon, etc said you just Had To Own or you’d get left behind.)
I feel stupid for having panicked in 2015 and sold a bunch of it but own a large chunk still. I probably own it because of incompetence however. I couldn’t find the certificate in 2015. I only found it last year in a pile of mainly trash I was sorting through. Now worth ^^^^. A bit more safely stowed now.
I’m not sure why it’s going up so much now. Is FNV angling to buy it or something like that, or Bezos? Has some intergalacticking network of UFOs signed up to purchase its stock? Is it that the generalist money managers are thinking royalty company and think FNV is a bit too expensive but are scared of SAND and OR for not being well enough known? I don’t get it, but I’m not complaining.
In any case, I have made incredible bone headed expensive moves, but rare lucky ones and this was the luckiest. I’d be less optimistic if I hadn’t made this one. Hope it’s not too offensive reciting my experience.
silverboom. when the train leaves the station running after it does’t work for me, so I patiently wait for the next one. I am looking at this tiny little royalty play which has an interesting model. I believe it be something to look at…Ely gold… ely.v / elygf
Yes, I was aware of Ely but had never dug into it much. These guys seem to be making deals all over the place, and just cut a $2 million deal with Sprott. If I had a few more shekels it would be worth a roll of the dice. At this late point in my investing “career”, disaster it has been, I’m gonna stick with SAND. Meanwhile, thanks for the tip/reminder – I passed it along to a fellow gold bug who has deeper pockets. And a bit of a bent towards risk…
Glad you found the certificate Karl. It’s worth researching the company now, and trying to gauge the best time to sell. Sorry if that’s stating the obvious.
