And I don’t get why, if the door is to be opened to trades, why not open it to self-sufficient retirees who have the right mindset? We would volunteer, spend our money, support their economy…..
Having said that, I am now of the mindset “if you don’t want me and all I have to offer just because I’m no longer working, then fuck you. I am not going to beg and grovel for the right to live somewhere”

I agree, that’s great that their border is open to workers and I agree with FGC that if I was one of those trades I too would jump at the opportunity.
Yes we did like Idaho and thought it would be a good fit. But are no longer willing to be relegated to “6 months here, 6 months there”. Been there, done that for many years with VT once we retired. It was okay at the time because it was our only option. I’m no longer willing to do that.

Don’t get me wrong. I supported, and still do support, Trump. We hung an American flag for weeks after the election. I am envious of all our USA-based tenters, because I think your country has a real chance at draining the swamp. I will continue to make regular forays across the border for groceries and to hell with anyone who criticizes my doing so. But it is pointless to continue wishing I could live there full time when it is obvious that my employment status prevents me from doing so.
I suppose it’s not so much a hissy fit; it’s more of a firm telling myself that it’s time to move on, stop wishing for what you cannot have. Perhaps it didn’t come out that way.
GMG does not understand the various ways to legally stay in the US.
Looked into the E-2 Investor Visa. Buy or start a business in the US but you need to complete the paperwork and get approval before it happens. The business I would start would require roughly 600,000 USD seed money up front. Go small and scale up if the demand is there. It would require funds for the first year before any revenue would come in. The number of workers would vary but this is part of a business plan one would need to file for the E-2 approval. Not all are approved.
I have discussed with her, the money is not the issue but it is running a business with employees.

Our doctor retired too so we are in the same boat , wifey needs prescriptions filled so what the hell happens if we can’t find the new doctor? Take the 6 month tour somewhere else cuz ya never know when life hits you with something from the left field. Onward Pilgrims ! Sold a bunch of my silver coins today, useless sitting in the box and will now turn them into an experience of something, somewhere for the soul, time to treat Mr. Me for a change.

Regarding prescriptions, there are a handful of pharmacists (not many) who can prescribe for you and also write requisitions for simple (routine) blood work. There is only one pharmacy in Kamloops that does that, but I’d imagine there are a few in the Okanagan. Granted it falls well short of having a family doctor, but it’s a stopgap measure.

If I was Trump and wanted Canada for it’s water, oil and gas, other resources, this is how you start without firing a shot. Cripple the economy to the point where we have no choice but to be come a territory of the US without Federal voting rights until it’s proven we can vote the “right way”. I won’t be here for the collapse but one should see the future.
This did not have to happen as our WEF leaders did us in with the Green New Scam, Net-Zero. Damn shame. We would have had a great future with the right vision. It’s too late, we are in a doom loop
