Revelations and exposure. Fine. Its a start.
But there are dikes with holes in them ANYWHERE you care to look. Its systemic.
Somalis make for a good target. Its easier for folks to NOT sympathize with them, and align with prosecution.
But the bigger, much bigger problem is the one POGO identified. Its “US”. Somebody taking advantage while most aren’t watching closely. Because THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE.
It comes down to the absence of prophylactic policy.
All the problems are chased LONG after the horses left the barn.
The root problem is the Fed, being allowed to buy federal (and perhaps state and municipal) paper, used to patch holes in the budgets, left by larceny in one form or another.
That has to be prohibited. As, I believe it was, prior to about 1914, when Congress modified the Fed’s charter.
SO … Congress is in on it, and culpable. They created the loophole that allowed the horses to sneak out.
Meaning, you can’t expect, or allow Congress to decide on how to fix this. And it will take a constitutional mechanism to fix this.
