I didn’t claim that Canada’s import to the U.S. is essential. The point I made was that Canada’s trade potential was significant. I said Canada has products the world needs. We have a five thousand mile border with a country whose people are very similar to our own. We have a natural affinity. Children of a common mother, as it states at the west coast border crossing. If you feel the need to bend your knee to American hegemony, go ahead. There is no need for the rest of us to ape your submission. The west of the country is more sturdy, more aware of our worth, and more willing to take our chances in the world. We are confident, while you are afraid.
