In a move to win over younger voters, Canadian politicians have promised to solve the Taylor Swift concert ticket crisis. The effort isn’t going well.

Gone are the days when practically anyone with a job and a savings account could see their favourite artist perform — seeing Taylor Swift now requires winning a literal lottery entered by over 31 million people for a chance at around 300,000 tickets. This means each entrant has a 99.03 per cent chance of failure.

But if you’re not a lucky winner, don’t fret. All you need is anywhere between $2,025 and $121,000 to buy a ticket on the resale market, and several Liberal cabinet ministers already have resale sites up and running. This includes the minister of concert affordability, who maintains his side gig as a scalper presents no conflict of interest.

Yet, despite politicians’ best efforts to profit off the crisis while simultaneously solving it, tickets have never been more out of reach.
