SCOTUS just delayed their ruling on whether Trump’s imposition of tariffs is constitutional.
Previously, his moves were intended primarily to rehome manufacturing and jobs.
Lately, its been more evident that tariffs can be used as leverage toward foreign policy goals.
Did Trump tell them … give me a week, I’ll make the foreign policy grounds for tariffs more clear?
Then … now try to draw the line.
Bottom line is that Trump is dealing with the Triffin Paradox, where the US gets seniorage with the dollar as global reserve currency. He’s now using tariffs to rebalance its adverse effects, those owing to the ease with which Americans have been able to trade paper for goods. If sustained, it can work ONLY if it makes xeno dollars more scarce.
