     One of the problems with using such thin lines (unless in a novel, imaginative way such as Northstar’s approach–though Northstar’s has not been proven right) is that all the bigshots have the same access to the same store-bought software as any of us do. They have their in-house TA people who have the extra-fancy deluxe store-bought software with the obscurer cycles and the Gann and the Elliots and all that. Their more important traders may not believe it yet still use it to mess with the markets. Their TA people may be there partially for their customers who like it or to advise the traders on how TA people see the world. If they have no customers at all, and think TA is nonsense they still may like having the TA people there to tell them what the TA is showing so that they know how to mess with the TA world.

     I believe I read in the 1990s that you began seeing more stuff like backtesting because even then the biggies were messing with people using standard TA. Now they can mess even better.

     That’s one reason why I like to think in terms of gradations or shading rather than lines. (Northstar wrote of ‘turbulence’ in certain zones. I’d say all zones.)

     A line is just something for them to mess with until it has been thoroughly breached, and even then, we don’t know until way later. It is good to develop one’s own methodology or to play around with a standard one–changing some of the variables or criteria a bit and so forth..

     They can’t hold back a major flood though. I’m not a nihilist. The lines do show where the bank of the river is, more or less (not a great analogy, but it’ll have to do).

       I would not be at all surprised if large trading organizations didn’t employ game theory Ph.D.s and on top of that psychologists to work with them not only to help game stops but also mental stops, partly using newsletters and other published recommendations, but also known TA, including not just trendlines but relatively obscure TA such as some of the obscurer waves or astrocycles that people using store-bought software would use. I would not fall off the chair if they had some idea how best to mess with practitioners of this kind of TA versus practitioners of that kind of TA, knowing that their psychologists have learned how to game the different types of marks–for example, that elliot wave types like to react this way to stress whereas trend followers tend to have a different personality and react differently to stress. Using different oscillators or other TA indicators signals may help, but they know these methodologies (unless you create your own oscillators). Ditto using certain fundamental criteria as filters (unless maybe you create your own). I am not sure how good they are (or are not) at pattern recognition yet–whether they beat good intuition. Don’t know at all. Nor do I know how good they are at getting AI to torture TA practitioners (yet–if ever).

       I am grateful to see the straight lines and breaches (thank you for this example and all the other charts), but….
