I’ve lived through some terribly turbulent times in our nation and in the world. Vietnam almost tore this country apart. Watergate was a severe wound. The Manson murders shredded the fabric of our culture. 9/11 was shocking. The COVID pandemic and ensuing political madness were bitter and disgraceful.
I now feel, however, that the disturbing malaise poisoning our current world is in many ways worse than all of these other events. It is literally as if the world has spun off its axis, never to find balance again. I’ve never been more concerned about the future of the human race. And the worst part of all of it, is that it’s predictable, and therefore preventable. Everything that’s wrong is staring us right in the face, and half this country simply will not join us in fighting and fixing it. It’s infuriating and depressing and maddening.

Spotted a young driver of a tractor-trailer stopped on the side of the highway on a incline who was running to extinguish a fire on what appeared to be seized brakes on the trailer.
Suddenly the trailer lurched forward, slowly at first. Quickly he ran, jumped in the cab and brought the unit to a stop before it took out passing traffic. Did he not set the brake? What training did he have? Yes, he appeared to be from India as are most of the BC commercial drivers I see on our highways. I constantly see them weaving across the line as I pass quickly on a divided highway. Are they distracted? Almost all are from the Indian subcontinent. I check when passing. Do they not take their responsibility seriously? I thought we were doing something to fix this problem.
Society seems to be breaking down faster or am I just experiencing more insanity.
Had a couple of neighbours with new boilers crap out on them after less than a year. Always a sensor that goes.
One of these neighbours had a fairly new snowblower breakdown due to a defective part. Boy was he pissed. Can’t get the sensor or the snowblower part until after New Year. Luckily he has a backup heat source to keep the plumbing from freezing.
Had some routine fluids changed on my car at the dealer and needed to return twice due to leaking from a defective new washer or the new plug. I was told it happens.
I am hesitant to replace an older model appliance. So I source the broken part and replace myself. If the 27 yo Maytag washer and dryer go, I am not going to be happy with these new water saver models. They move where ever we move. They are bullet proof and work as expected.
