Right before the long weekend, the BC govt dropped a 106-pg agreement w/ the Squamish Nation.
It sets out 33 cultural sites (on public land), inc. rec sites at Cat Lake, Gambier Lake & in BC Parks. The Squamish say these public lands are “now back under our direct control.”
‘Outstanding’ areas (inc. a large area of Garibaldi Prov. Park, around Callaghan Lake Prov. Park & more) are labelled “Wild Spirit Places” to be managed to provide spaces for spiritual & cultural renewal; any activities must be “compatible” (similar wording to Joffre closure)
